Do you do a daily Bible study? If so, great! If not, I encourage you to take just thirty minutes out of your day, every day, and do a Bible study. Don’t know how? Well, I’ll give you three simple steps to start your Bible study!
Step One
The first step is to gather all your supplies and put them into a cute bag or basket that you can grab each day for your Bible study time! Here are some essential things to put in your kit:
- Bible
- Pen, Pencil or any writing utensil
- Journal or Notebook
- Highlighter
- Bookmark for your Bible
- A Bible Commentary (optional, but very useful)
Now take all of your supplies, and put them into a bag or basket, and grab it every time you do your Bible study time!
Step Two
Pick the book of the Bible you want to read first! I know, there are so many options, but Psalms, or the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) are great choices. Or, if you want to read the Bible in order from start to finish, then start in Genesis. If you’re looking for a book of the Bible that takes you through someone’s life journey, 1st and 2nd Samuel, Esther, Ruth, Jeremiah, Judges, and Jonah are some of my top picks. Just pick a book of the Bible, and bookmark the first page of it with the bookmark from your kit.
Step Three
Journaling is a great way to record your notes, thoughts, questions, and prayers as you read the Bible. Here are three journaling prompts that I definitely recommend using:
- What is the main idea of this passage?
- What is God trying to tell you?
- Put yourself in the author of this book’s shoes. What do you think was going through his head?
Answer these questions as you read the Bible. Read the Bible passage/chapter/paragraph you’re reading slowly, and don’t skim through. That’s why thirty minutes is a great chunk of time to use for personal Bible study time.
I hope these three steps help you as you dive in to personal Bible study. If you already invest into your spiritual health with personal Bible study, then I hope these tips help you as well! May God bless you!
