Hello! So I saw this Bible verse recently about obeying the Lord, and I was thinking, “I should write a blog post on that!”. As you can see, I followed through with thought! Anyway, you’re probably wondering what Bible verse I saw, so here it is!
“He replied, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.’” -(Luke 11:28)
Did you notice how Jesus said and obey it? Yeah. He didn’t just say “Blessed are those who hear the word of God”, he said, “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” So we shouldn’t just read the Bible and think “That’s good!”, we should think that, then obey it. Remember, God’s word isn’t something to just read, it’s not just any old book, it’s God’s Word. Now read this:
“He replied, ‘Blessed rather is (your name) who hears the word of God and obeys it.”
The Bible talks a lot about obeying God’s word instead of just hearing it. Here is 1 John 2:3, NIV:
“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
Okay, now we know it’s important to obey God’s word, right? Well, how do we know what to obey? I’d start with the Ten Commandments, found in Exodus 20. Here they are below:
- You shall have no other gods before me
- You shall not make idols
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain (don’t say OMG)
- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
- Honor your father and your mother
- You shall not murder
- You shall not commit adultery
- You shall not steal
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor (don’t lie)
- You shall not covet (don’t be jealous)
