Hey! I just read 1 John, and it’s very fitting for Valentine’s Day and everyday life. It talks about loving one another, living in light instead of darkness, living as children of God, and so much more. Plus, it’s only five chapters, so it didn’t take long at all! You can definitely read it in under twenty minutes. I encourage you to go and read 1 John in your Bible right now. When you’re done, come back to this post and read the ways to apply it in this season of love. Now go grab your Bible and read it!
Good job! You read it didn’t you? Now we’re going to create something I like to call a “Loving Others Kit”. You can stick it in your bag, your car’s console, or anywhere that you can access it on the go. So what is a “Loving Others Kit”? Basically, it’s a little bag or pencil pouch filled with anything to help you love others. When you run out of supplies in it, restock! I challenge you to use this year round, not just during Valentine’s Day season. Let’s create it!
How To Create A “Loving Others Kit”
Grab a small bag or a pencil case. This will be filled with a bunch of things to help you love other people. Here are some ideas for what to include in your kit:
- A pad of sticky notes and a pen. Use: Write a positive and encouraging message on a sticky note, and stick it to a public restroom mirror, a less seen wall in a public building, or anywhere!
- Bible verse cards. You can find packages of these at a store and online, or you can make your own on a 3x5 card. Use: Put it in a book before you return it to the library, give to someone, stick it in a letter you send, leave it on a table with your tip at a restaurant, and so many more!
- A small notebook and pen. Use: If you see someone that you think needs prayer, write it down in your notebook and pray for them later. Also, you can write an encouraging message on it, tear out the page, fold it up, and give it to someone. You could talk to them and explain, or just hand it to them and walk away. Maybe squeeze in a “God loves you” or a “Hi! Please read this/take this”.
- Gift cards or money. Use: if you see someone that you think would be blessed by this, give them the gift or money.
- Bookmarks with Bible verses on them. Use: give to people, or leave them in the free bookmark bin at your church or public or school library.
