Hey, girl! Let’s chat about FASHION! Clothes, manicures, hair and makeup- this is going to be fun. First things first, though. What do you think of when you think of the word fashion? I think of clothes, so we’ll start there after a friend of mine answers a question!
What are your thoughts on fashion? What are some outfits that you LOVE to wear?
Wow, what fun questions! First of all, I have always been taught to dress modestly. Now, that doesn’t mean I always wear floor length dresses! It does mean I choose wisely and use discernment, asking questions like, “Why am I getting this? Is it to look nice or is it to show off?” I believe that you can look nice without being immodest and that your faith matters more than outward appearances. (See Galatians 1:10 and 1 Timothy 2:9-10)
That being said, I love to wear deep colors like forest greens and sky blues. I am also a pushover for dangle earrings! I love pairing jewelry with simple outfits to add some sparkle. I don’t wear much makeup, but I do have a stash of pink lip gloss!
CLOTHES
This is a pretty big subject to cover, so let’s get into it! Here are some seasonal fashion ideas!
Winter
Color Ideas: Blue, silver, white, creme- think light, fluffy and warm!
Casual: A cute sweatshirt or sweater with jeans and a beanie.
Dressy: A long dress with black leggings, ankle boots or black flats or black combat boots, a dainty necklace, hair natural and down.
Spring
Color Ideas: Anything pastel or floral.
Casual: A light sweater or sweatshirt with jeans and black flats or tennis shoes.
Dressy: A floral pantsuit with black flats and a cute purse. Or, a floral or pastel colored dress that goes down to your knees with black leggings and ankle boots.
Summer
Color Ideas: Bright! Yellow, hot pink, bright green, dark blue.
Casual: Colorful tank tops and shorts with watermelon earrings and cute bucket hats. Or, a cute sundress.
Dressy: A long breezy dress and cute bracelets.
Fall
Color Ideas: Carmel or nutmeg brown, orange, red, and yellow.
Casual: A sweater and jeans with ankle boots and a beanie- hot cocoa in hand!
Dressy: A long dress that’s one of the Fall colors above, ankle boots, and hair in a braid.
So there’s your Seasonal Fashion Guide by Miss Lily Jayne (LOL)! Feel free to copy them into your journal!
Fashion is supposed to be fun- keep it that way. If you don’t like the way you look, try this: look at yourself how God, your Creator, would look at you. Then smile! Confidence goes a long way in fashion (we’ll talk about Confidence more soon in a future Girl Chat post).
So you got some advice for seasonal fashion, but what about the rest of fashion? Well, I don’t want to turn this post into a book, so I’ll keep it short. BE YOU! If you want to wear those combat boots with that dress, do it!
Sadie Robertson Huff once said in her “WOAH! THAT’S GOOD” podcast that if you have a simple outfit, put more effort in your hair and makeup. If you have simple hair and makeup, put more effort in your outfit.
Here’s a great quote regarding fashion: “Always ask yourself, does God want to see me in this? Enough said?” -Nancy Rue
Is that enough talk on clothes? If not, please comment to do a whole post on it.
HAIR
Ok, it’s time to talk about hair. There are so many styles you could choose; it’s overwhelming! Because I don’t want this post too long, here’s a list of some cute hairstyles to try! (Feel free to look some up if you don’t know what they are)
- Bubble braid
- Double French braids
- Claw clip hairstyles!
- High ponytail-braid
- Hair down and natural with just a stylish headband
- Pull-through braid
Once you have clothes, makeup, and a hairstyle, next comes accessories. I’ll keep this short. Stick to 5 or less accessories per outfit. You could pick a smartwatch, gold stud earrings, a cute bracelet, and you’re set for the day. Have fun with this! You can even stack bracelets if you wanted to.
One tip I have when it comes to accessories is this: Coordinate your accessories with your outfit. If you have a brightly colored tank top and black shorts, add a stack of brightly colored bracelets to one arm. If you have a pastel colored outfit, add a pastel colored bucket hat. You get the point. Don’t worry too much about being matchy-matchy though. If you had a green dress with pink flowers on it, you could add pink earrings. Feel free to use accessories to accent and bring out certain parts of your outfit!
Okay! I know, a lot of information. I hope this helped you! You can come back to it as well.
Thanks for the Girl Chat!
