Back To School: School Prep

Hello! Today marks the first week of the Back to School series (I may refer to it as BTS -just a heads up). Today we’re chatting about school prep! Planning, routines, checklists, and more. Let’s jump right in!

1. Planning

If you know me, you know I’m a big planner. I love getting my new planner for the school year and seeing the layouts, stickers, pockets, sticky notes, and other things that the planners I typically get usually have. But you can’t just stop at buying a planner. You have to plan! So here’s my tips for planning:

  1. Pick your color combo for this week/month. Pick colors that fit that season or time of year by grabbing your pens or whatever, and picking out five different ones to be your combo for that time. Next week/month, pick a different combo! For BTS, I chose pastels of pink, orange, green, blue, and yellow. Use those chosen pens to write your schedules and whatever else in.
  2. Now on to the planning! Use your pens and write your schedule for this week on a weekly spread in your planner. All the things you have going on.
  3. Next, write to-do lists or things that you’d like to get done for each day. That might be cleaning your room, touching up a manicure, practice the sport you’re in on your own time (for me, practice volleyball in my backyard), replace the decor in your room, etc.
  4. Now put in the super important things that are faith-related. If you put “Read Bible” for each day, that would be a great thing -if you do it that is. Also, put church on Sundays, Youth Group on Wednesdays, Prayer walks or prayer journaling for some days, and whatever else. I usually just put “Time w/ God” on each day, and that just makes sure that when I check off the box, I spent time with God in some way or form -even if it’s reading my Bible for five minutes.
  5. Use stickers and sticky notes to make the weekly/monthly spread better looking. For example, if you are going somewhere with friends one day put a cute sticker that says something like “Night Out!” by it. Use what you have!
  6. In the back of your planner keep routines, weekly outfit plans, and checklists. You can find and print out cute outfit plan templates online! You can fill it out, then stick it in between the pages of that week -kind of like a bookmark.
Find what works best for you and your schedule when planning! If you don’t have a planner, use a blank notebook to write down schedules, to-do lists, routines, checklists, and whatever else! Make it fun too with stickers, gel pens, sticky notes, tabs, etc. The biggest thing for making a planner fun -for me- is using gel pens or just colored pens. I mean, think of the difference from a planner with a black pen writing everything verses all different colors all over!

2. Checklists

School Supplies List:
  • Notebook
  • Some pens or pencils
  • Erasers if you use pencils
  • Mini stapler!
  • Water bottle
  • A folder or two
That’s mostly it for me since I’m homeschooled, but if you’re not, then your list is probably longer!

Gym Bag/Sports Bag Checklist:
  • Water bottle
  • Whatever gear you need for your sport -for me: knee pads, arm sleeves, and a pair of volleyball shoes.
  • A small bag of toiletries -including hair ribbons in team colors for meets
  • Phone
  • A granola bar or small snack for days with meets
  • Book -for the ride to a meet
  • Team sweatshirt or windbreaker
3.  Routines

These are just ideas.

Morning Routine
  • Wake up
  • Make bed
  • Morning time w/ God
  • Shower
  • Breakfast
  • Get school stuff ready
  • Chill before school starts, then start! (If you’re not homeschooled, then this step would be “ride to school”)
After-School Routine
  • Chill for a bit -read, watch something, journal, etc.
  • Get stuff on to-do list done
  • Workout or go to sports practice
  • Shower -yes, for the second time. Unless you workout before your morning shower.
  • Supper!
Night Routine
  • Walk after supper
  • Chill or get more to-do list things done -or both. Both is best.
  • Make bed for night time if you have a day bed like me (kind of like a couch bed.)
  • Clean and tidy up room a bit
  • Brush teeth, wash face, brush hair, etc.
  • Pajamas!
  • Read
  • Stretch and do night-time devos
  • Read some more
  • Bed time -finally!
Get your school prep on! Thanks for reading and God Bless!
