Journaling Through Lent: Week 2

Welcome to Week 2 of Journaling Through Lent! Today, the attribute of Jesus that we’re going to be talking about is that He offers second chances. He is filled with grace, love, and yes, second chances.

Here are the first Bible verses I would like to share with you: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” -Romans 8:1-2 (NIV). The fact that we were once lost and now are found as Christians is proof enough that Jesus gives second chances. We were dead, heading for hell. Then when we put our faith in Jesus and committed our life to Him, we suddenly became alive and are now headed for Heaven! The only reason that we are able to spend eternity with Jesus just by following and believing in Him is because Jesus died on the cross for us. It was our sin, but Jesus took the punishment for it so that we didn’t have to. Now we’re forgiven and redeemed! That screams “second chance”! Let’s add on to our truths from last week!

Truth #4: Jesus died for us, therefore setting us free and giving us a second chance (Romans 8:1-2, NIV)

The next verse I would like to share with you comes from John 1:12 (NIV again): “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” He gave the right. We’re children of God because He gave us a second chance. It was in His power and He gave us that second chance because He loves us.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” God’s whole mission that He had planned out when He sent Jesus to the world was redemption. A second chance. Forgiveness for our sins when we trust, follow, and believe in Him. The whole entire Bible is a redemption story. That happens through God’s second chances.

Have you accepted that second chance from God yet? If you haven’t, now is the time. You don’t know if you’ll be alive tomorrow or not. None of us do. So it’s time to accept God’s second chance and believe in Him. It’s not enough just to believe, though -even the demons believe. We need to follow God. How? By reading His Word (the Bible) and living by it. If you haven’t already, it’s time to start doing that because that means you’re accepting God’s second chance for you and that you’re headed to Heaven after you die.

Journaling Prompt: Have you accepted God’s second chance for you? If you haven’t, journal a prayer to God saying that you now choose to believe and follow Him -and mean it with all your heart. If you have accepted Jesus’ second chance, then write out your testimony and reflect on how good God has been.

See you next week!
